The Taming Of The Shrew By William Shakespeare - 1382 Words

In Shakespeare’s ‘The Taming of the Shrew’, women are shown to be objectified and subservient to men, conforming to the accepted gender roles that are expected of them. Patriarchal views of femininity support the authority of men in society, as well as subjugation and subordination of women. As written of the representation of women in early literature, â€Å"the focus of interest is on the heroine’s choice of marriage partner, which will decide her ultimate social position and †¦ determine her happiness † Yet through the story Shakespeare subtly presents a relationship which is built upon trust, involving two intelligent characters who come to appreciate one another. Which can be supported by the view of later feminists, who agree that it is not necessarily individual men who oppress women, but the underlying prejudice of a patriarchal society. Though the play is introduced depicting a strong-willed, bold female character, this is ultimately undermined by the finale, in which Kate seemingly submits to the role of the domesticated wife, â€Å"Thy husband is thy lord, thy life, thy keeper,† in doing so, going against the values she had previously held. Petruchio reforms Kate, in doing so supposedly destroying her spirit. The notion of ‘taming’ her is revealed to be that Kate must live to please her husband (even if she does not love him). The need of the project management is more important than ever. There are many considerations which the leader should keep in mind. Today the project management has become a mandate because there are so many business proposals and projects and the modern leader must guide the company through thick and thin to have the best success. The race is on. The essay is a reflexive report which enumerates some established essays on basic facts of project management and also clarifies the need of effective leadership in the same. Section 1 The first article on which the discussion is to be made is corporate reputation: the definitional landscape. The scope of this paper is dealing with myriad definitions of corporate reputations. There are many categories of corporate reputation and strategy. Strategy making is very important for any company reputation. The reputation of a company stands or falls in the reputation. This article analyses and reviews an evaluation about statements of commercial repute. The article clearly says that what is reputation and why reputation is important. It also analyses the strategies for an effective reputation construction. The article eminently distinguishes this notion from business identity, business representation and business status of capital. The article delves deep in the questions and tries to search for the effective answer to the question that what is the corporate reputation? The article writer has talked and collected data from authentic corporate sources and houses. The colle cted data is then analyzed and the management strategies and theories are put over it. There are many discussions which makes the reader clear about what is being talked. The data brings the basic need of reputation and building the publicity for a company. it also talks of the ways to reduce cost for doing the same. The second article to be discussed in this section is: Earnings Management Using Classification Shifting: An Examination of Core Earnings and Special Items. This is a beautiful piece of research and analysis for the important subject shifting of cost. The moment one thins on the cost and setting up of the capital in a company there are many allied things which ring the mind. This is a high research based piece of creation that classifies various items that is included in the income statement as an earnings management tool. Expenses are of two kinds, namely the core expenses and the special item expenses (Apple, R. 1996). The core expenses include cost of goods sold and selling, wide ranging, and managerial operating costs. This article clearly collects the data of the esteemed companies in the market and analyses their cost effectively. The research thus paves the path of understanding the total cost importance and also paves a path for the future considerations. Cost is an important aspect and this article enumerates the intricacies of the same very effectively and in detail. The reasons of the shifting and the strategies of the shifting have been enumerated in detail keeping in mind the historical connection as well. Audit is an important and integrated part of the total economic system of any system. Auditing is extremely needed to take the institution or organization forward. If the same is not done properly then there are all the discrepancies. The article which is discussed here is Economic Determinants of Audit Committee Independence. Auditing must be understood all the students of the management. The report that is here discussed clearly states that the audit committees independence is based on the economic factors of the particular company the auditing is done in. the findings of the report states clearly that the audit committee autonomy increases with size of the managing board and managing board independence and decreases with the respective firm's enlargement opportunities and for firms that testimonies of uninterrupted losses. This report also states that there is no relation between audit working group freedom and creditors' stipulation for secretarial particulars. The analyses that are in this scholarly article are all based on the data from 1991 to 1993, these results have implications for NYSE and NASDAQ listing requirements for audit committees adopted in December 1999. Thus this report is a must study for the people of all the communities. The auditing is an important thing and the aspects discussed here shall itemize many of the same. The change management is the fourth aspect on which the articles focus on. The change management is the essential feature. To implement the proper strategies and to bring about any change in the total system of the company there is a need to manage the changes. The change management is important because the employees who were accustomed to a system and now that thing is being altered and this creates a sense of insecurity among the employees. The effective change management can be done to bring back the popularity. The book The Hard Side of Change Management evaluates the reasons of the insecurity and also specifies about the strategies of the change management. Managing the change is always a tough thing. As this means the total base is to be shifted at a different place (Callahan, D. 2004). this article deals in with the intricacies of the change management. The change initiates insecurity among the workers. The writer of this report had searched with detail what are the socio cond itions of the people. Then the data has been collected and analyzed brick by brick. After the analysis the formulation of the change management strategies demand. Thus this book shall help in commuting. The last but not the least of the deals is the marketing strategies. The marketing is very important for any business. Be it online or through person, the marketing strategies must be enumerated in detail. The marketing strategies are varied and myriad. Every business confers a marketing strategy to the people in the same. The people of the company have to cope up with the situation and react accordingly. The name of the book which is in discussion is a broad conceptualization of global marketing strategy and its effect on firm importance. The writer adopts and takes up variety of marketing genres and compares the same with each other. When there is the data collection there is the analysis. The analysis gives rise to the third force of understanding. If the company does not have the trust on the employees then he or she shall follow a person or two. This report enumerates in detail the motive and outlook of the modern marketing strategies. The strategies are named and analyzed. The book shows a way to deal with the various aspects of marketing. Section 2: analyses of the reading. The analyses of reading are mandatory in understanding any basic thing. The corporate strategies and modes of work are drastically changing with time. The modern day strategies are more diversified and exclusive (Hallam, J. 2000). There is more than one option marketwise and at the same time there are the competitions. Thus to sustain the companies must do something positive in the planning way. The aforementioned reports aim at the same. Leadership in project management The work of the leader is in understanding the situations in the above mentioned contexts and bringing the effective changes and controlling the situations in the proper manner. The leadership is an important thing in the project management. Why the company needs a leader? After reading the aforementioned reports on auditing, reputation, cost distribution, change management and corporate marketing, the notion which comes in the mind is that the work of the leader is to understand the situations and act accordingly; moreover the leader must guide the company through all the thick and thin conditions and aspire the success. In overall respect I have learnt that the subjects which have been enumerated are all questions about consideration and thought. In the run of the system the logic and thinking is important. The company runs in a given set of rules and regulations to implore the same in the daily run of the company the leader must be agile and fore seer (Lieberman, A. 1988). The run of the company is not so easy. The leader has to understand the modern techniques and ways to have a great repute. On the leaders perspective this can also be said that the same ideas notions, pre-assumptions and others shall assuredly not be same for all the organizations. The organization nature shall be a lot dependant on the strategy types and strategies in all. The reason is that with the change of the mother institution, that is the company and the soil on which the same is situated that is the country, the rules and lifestyle of the commons change,. When the commons change the companies which are there must change their strategies. The change of country means change in laws, motives, and regulatory things and so on. Thus the same strategy that is applicable in one country is not applicable on the other. The same can be said for the different companies The best part of this research is that they spurred new research modules. The moment the reader is acquainted with the fact that there are many intricacies in the ideas of auditing, reputation, cost distribution, change management and corporate marketing, he sits back to think the possible ways he can make the best use of the same. The reader is thus in a way motivated to reflect on the subject more thorough these essays. In all this must be enumerated that the essays have made the reader aware that there are so many considerations in the company, while a person runs a company many tunings must be kept in mind otherwise the doom shall be inevitable (O'Sullivan, C. 2005). This essay makes that awareness. While the reparation is discussed and the importance of the cost distribution is discussed the reader is aware of the strategies and thus he or she is spurred to think something new. This creates the newness in the whole thing. The essays not only act as the inspiration but also as a source to new thinking and effective way of thinking. This what makes them special? They address to a wide range of questions and thus they formulate the right proportion of leadership and importance of project management in the modern companies. Conclusion Thus it must be said that everything has a strategy. The strategy is dependant on some facts, conditioned and given circumstances. Thus the acquaintance of the total situation is important to have an overall plan and idea. This essay has clarified the importance of project management and the intricacies of consideration in the same (Sockett, H. 2001). The importance of leadership is also reflected here. The essay has discussed some important questions of the modern day and also has extended the thoughts in discussion of how to elongate the process. Project management and the leadership in the same are truly narrated here. References Apple, R. (1996). Vitamania. New Brunswick, N.J.: Rutgers University Press. Apple, R. (1996). Vitamania. Westside story Essay Example

Westside story Paper Westside story takes the form of a musical. The plot works itself around the songs which are structured in each scene. There are two acts and within the acts are scenes which help to create the storyline and structure the play. As there are two scenes we could say there are two episodes, because the first act builds up the story and develops the key roles of the characters so the audience gets to know what they are like. In the first scene in act one we are immediately introduced to the two gangs. The audience find out what is happening between both gangs and the reasons why these events are happening. The first scene is structured so that it builds into both gangs having a rumble. After this scene the rest of the play is set out to revel the build up tension before a big climax at the end of both acts. There are a number of scenes within both acts. It is set in chronological order; however act two has fewer and shorter scenes compared to act one. This could be in order to build up tension and the last scene of the whole play releases this for the big final. This is shown in the scene involving Tony and Doc at the drugstore and Doc reveals to Tony that Chino has shot and killed Maria. As the play has taken the form of a musical. Songs and dance has obviously been included. These are used within the play and must work well to have the desired effect with the storyline for the play to work as a whole. This is shown in act one scene five when Tony is outside Marias window and they both sing, Tonight, Tonight. They are showing their true love for each other and nothing can stop them from being together. This song has been structured so that it finishes towards the end of the first act and the eventual climax of it. Another example is also in act one scene five when the Puerto Ricans sing the song, America. This fits in with the storyline because of the fact that they are immigrants who have just moved here showing their feelings and views about America and Puerto Rico. Dance is used to reflect movement and physicality. An example of this is the opening scene when the Sharks and Jets are introduced. We acted out this scene as a class. We divided ourselves into two equal groups, lined up and faced the opposite group about ten feet away from each other. We each held a pose for a few seconds and began walking around the room keeping eye contact with everyone especially those in the opposite group. Each of us had our eye one particular rival gang member, we both would eventually come together making unfriendly gestures towards each other and try and get a nasty reaction out of one another, like imitating the way one walks. After getting away from one another, each and every one of us in the whole class would suddenly hit someone, be hit or dragged by our hair by an imaginary person, but with no one physically jus imitating as if someone was really there. The sequences of the balance of dialogue, monologues and songs were factors that do effectively create the desired effect. The actions and dialogues used in the play helps to show us their background culture. For example, the Sharks; Puerto Ricans are always clicking their fingers and are always in an upright matter. This implies their status and think highly of themselves. This is also shown through dialogue, for example when Bernardo clicks his finger, all the gang follow without him having to say a word. When discussing monologues, they are spoken in both verse and song. Monologues of the characters have been structured so that they take the form of a song. Some songs involve more than one character, but whatever way the last sentence is always left with one person communicating with the audience. The structure of the play as a whole does not change very much. At the end of both acts there are major climaxes and they built up in the previous scenes. The two main scenes are at the end of each act. At the end of act one, tension has been increases slowly between the two gangs and in this scene both gangs want to end their rivalry once and for all. Also, Tony has fallen in love with Maria, sister of Bernardo, and Maria made Tony promise to not let ant fighting go ahead between both of the gangs. This keeps the audience from wondering if Tony would keep his promise to Maria or not. Both gangs meet under the highway; this provides a necessary image for the fight scene and does actually work really well. Tony does try to stop the fight, however resulting to Bernardo stabbing and killing Riff, Tonys best friend. Tony, in rage that his best friend has just been murdered accidentally, without thinking of the consequences grabs a knife and stabs Bernardo and kills him. Tony is left standing over the two bodies and screams out Marias name. This scene ends with Tony running away and then it is a blackout, end of act one. This leaves the audience on the edge of their seat wanting to know what is going to happen next. The playwright has considered the form of the play and has carefully balanced out what has happened and why. The final scene of the play is the most important of them all. The setting fits with the storyline and as it is set in a street in darkness does give the impression the story is near to an end. The audience want to know what is going to happen now. What one small character can say or do can change the whole course of the play. The scene begins with Tony screaming Chinos name. Tension is still increasing as the audience know that Chino didnt really kill Maria, as this is what Doc told Tony earlier. However, the audience still want to know how this is all going to turn out. To Tonys surprise Maria appears from the shadows and they both begin to run towards each other. Everyone in the audience think they are finally found out the truth and all can be forgiven and they are going to live happily ever after. They are wrong, to the audiences shock when Tony is running towards Maria a gunshot is fired from the shadows and Tony falls into Marias arms and eventually dies. All the characters appear and both gangs reunite and carry Tonys body out and the play is ended. The structure has been created to build up the audience for a happy ending; however the complete opposite has been made giving an unexpected shock to the audience. This is a very powerful scene and the way the scenes have been structured and set out help make tension and give satisfaction to the audience.

Lets Just Prosecute to the FULL extent of the Law.

Lets Just Prosecute to the FULL extent of the Law. Lets Just Prosecute to the FULL extent of the Law. Lets Just Prosecute to the FULL extent of the Law. By Maeve Maddox Philip Dragonetti writes: Another word that drives me up the wall is fullestas in: Violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Would someone please tell me how the fullest extent of the law is greater than the full extent of the law? I agree with Philip that full is sufficient when speaking of the extent of the law. Thats not to say that fullest extent is always superfluous. For example: â€Å"I live every day to its fullest extent and I dont sweat the small stuff.† Olivia Newton-John Taking shelter in the dead is death itself, and only taking all the risk of life to the fullest extent is living.† Rabindranath Tagore The use of fullest in these examples is acceptable because the extent to which life can be lived depends upon external factors such as health and opportunity. The law, on the other hand, is determinate. The extent is set. You may prosecute someone to the full extent of the law. The superlative form fullest is not required. By now the expression the fullest extent of the law has taken on the character of a clichà ©. It is annoyingly imprecise, but its probably not going to go away. The New Deal legislation affected African American and Mexican Essay

The New Deal legislation affected African American and Mexican American - Essay Example th of spontaneous rebellion" (HISTORY IS A WEAPON), The New Deal tried to create an image of good will by simply refurbishing the people of the middle class. It provided jobs but only to half of the people and providing the bare minimum to the lowest group of people (Zinn 205). Though there were many employments provided to the people after the great depression historians like Howard Zinn are contradictory in their opinions. According to Zinn, the New Deal had not completely transform the American economy but only protected the corporate capitalism of America buy absorbing the threatening situations but occasionally (RADOSH). There were many programs included in the New Deal policy. Emergency Banking Act/Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was done to re instill the faith of the Americans in the banking system. Civil Works Administration (CWA) was a policy to provide psychological and physical benefits to the 4 million workers o f USA. Indian Reorganization Act of 1934 was specially aimed at protecting the lands of the Native Americans. Federal Securities Act of May 1933/ Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) was a very important policy that made it mandatory to disclose all information related with stocks. Works Progress Administration (WPA) 1935-1943 helped in providing employment to the people (New Deal Achievements). These policies transformed the economic system of the country to a great extent. The New Deal provided mixed results for both the two minority communities of America. While the black community received some marked benefits the impact on the Mexican American community was even lesser. The New Deal provided authorative positions for the black people in the US government like Mary McLeod Bethune who was hired by the Roosevelt to lead the Division of Negro Affairs of the National Youth Administration (The New Deal Affects Many Groups 505). Journal of Korean film Bedevilled (2010) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Journal of Korean film Bedevilled (2010) - Essay Example Cruelty of people, gendered violence, city and rural ways of being is remained to be the central problems that are involved into the film. It is possible to highlight two basic figures in the film that develop a plot and action. These are considered to be women those names are Hae-won and Pong-nam (Cho, 139-140). They have different characters and different faiths, but they both are presupposed to cruelty to some extent. The first one is represented as a cold lady with a severe and even brutal character. She works in a bank, lives in a big city, but is tired from all of this. She is used to behave impertinent and rude with all people around her. The moment that she becomes a witness of a crime and does nothing for the help of unfortunate woman proves the indifference and cruelty of her soul. Even when Hae-won’s old friend asks for the help she refuses despite the fact that she has been willing to provide it. The second woman represents the images of victim and murderer. This woman lives in a rural landscape and suffers from sexploitation and other bullying from people around her. Moreover, that is considered to be her husband, brothers and old women. Her soul is full of pain and infliction. Still, the patience of Pong-nam comes to an end when she loses her daughter and gets a refusal to save her from this hell. Since this moment Pong-nam becomes a murder. The thirst for revenge seizes this woman and she starts to requite for all pain that has been inflicted to her. In addition, it is relevant to admit the contrast between the settings that are represented in the film. The plot of â€Å"Bedevilled† develops in a huge city Seoul and rural place Moodo. Through these images it is possible to parallel civilized society and uncivilized one. City is viewed as a place where people can earn a lot of money and live better, while countryside is represented as a terrible and awful

Political Nature Of Music Essay Example for Free

Political Nature Of Music Essay Music has influenced man in a lot of ways and it can be evidently seen in the events that have occurred throughout the years. The vastness of musics capability to create influential concepts and ideas ranges from the smallest of intents to the broadest of intentions. Politics is not an exemption to the scope of musical boundaries. Through the years, music has provided various influential impacts to society and to politics. In the United States, music has become a popular method to promote political intentions. Music and Politics Through the years music has evolved and added up different genres from time to time. This aspect of music provides a wider range of impact on different types of music lovers. From punk to hip-hop, jazz up to pop, these different musical styles possess the influential aspects that determine the concept of music and its ability to affect people. There are various artists and bands who blatantly express their political outcries through the use of their music. There have been the bands from the past until present who showcase their protests to political leaders and their actions. To these bands, their capability to influence people most especially the die hard fans makes them believe that they can make an impact or better yet a change to society. This potential of bands to influence and affect the perceptions of people is a powerful tool that displays musics power. Bands and artists that showcase their political views creates a controversial stir due to the fact that not all people have the same political views. Despite all of this, these bands continue to stand on their opinions and still create music to promote their side. There are also those bands and artists who promote politically but does not display their political side. These artists are the ones who advertise people to vote. Due to the greatness of musics influence especially on the youth of today, artists promote political awareness and help these youth to care for the country and vote. There have been various commercials of bands or artists who display their stand to vote. Years ago, artists started to create the thought of â€Å"vote or die†. This shows their strong stand to help people vote. If there are the musical artists who promote their stand to vote, there are also those who oppose the actions of political leaders. For instance, there are several music artists who display their strong stand against President Bushs actions especially of the decision to send the countrys troops to Iraq. Years ago, there became a nationwide controversy regarding the Dixie Chicks opposing President Bush. This has led to different scenarios. This is just one example of music artists expressing their side. Through the years there are the bands like the notable punk artists such as the Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, The Clash and Green Day who have been notorious to utilize controversially political lyrics that bash the administrations. There are so many other bands who make use of their lyrics and catchy sounds to stir up messages that bring forth impact. We already jumped to the present times but the 1960s and 1970s are the decades that have really made expressionistic views through music. From the influential music of the rock bands of that era up to the formulation of the phenomenal rock concert named Woodstock, politics has served as a source of musical â€Å"revolution†. Woodstock, is the whole epitome of music serving as a tool towards political views. It is one of the most phenomenal events of history, a compilation of musical artists who serve for a single and peaceful cause. An expression of peace and a blatant display of care and intent to provide a better resolution to the war during those times, Woodstock became a festival of driven intention to promote peace and somehow express the side of the youth towards the actions of the American government especially pertaining to the Vietnam War then. Jumping back to the present, musics influence stands on different aspects. In the United States, such prominent music icons serve as the most influential artists that can accumulate a larger prospective view. There are those artists who serve for patriotic intentions while there are those who serve for what they think is better for the country. Its hard to count all these artists and specify their political views but the whole point is that the power of music is so great that when people choose to believe in it, their views and principles can be altered by musics life-changing influences. For music lovers and the die hard fans, most of them copy or imitate their favorite artists or bands, and in turn, some of them find it cool to follow their footsteps or even yet their views. Such is the power of music that it can affect political views and principles of people. Music can unite people but it can also segregate people. The genres are the ones which takes care of the segregation part but with the evolution of music today, the genres have become side by side with views and perceptions. All of them serve as the segregating factor. But nonetheless, music still has the power to unite and make people believe in something. Though it is a fact that all people dont possess the similar views, with regards to politics for that matter, there is a magnanimous challenge for music to unite everyone. The socio-economic class of people vary in a lot of ways and music also takes a part on it. As it is widely known, African Americans mostly take the side of Jazz, Hip-Hop and RB due to their history while the Whites take country music, pop, rock and punk. Segregation can also be evidently seen in these types of music which appeal to certain groups of people. All in all, music has served great not only in the United States but also around the world. The contributions of music to the history of the world somehow have created the different impacts on events. Whether be it on the past or today, musics vast power to capture a single persons political point of view is quite underrated. To some it may not look like as a big factor, but to some it also means a lot. Some people love music and that love for music helps them to believe in something. Personally, my political views have been strong from the start. Its not that music has influenced me or something, but seeing my favorite bands and artists taking a stand on what I believe in makes me feel that I am on the right side. Music helped me to become what I am today. It made me realize that someway, somehow I have something to believe in, something to be a fan of, and that I share this feeling with other people around the world. Music is a part of my life. I could not imagine my world without music. Though I know that not all people agree on my views, I still believe that music helps me to believe in something. The poetry of the lyrics, the awesome guitar rifts, the fast pace of the drums or even just the enlightening voice of the artist, these factors are the ones that helps me to create peace of mind and believe in something that has power and influence. Although I may not share the political views of all people, my music helps me take a stand and realize my worth and the worth of the country. Music artists have personally influenced me to vote and take a political stand but on what stand that is, its all up to me. Such is the power of music, it can alter, influence, and unite people.

A Perfect Day in the Ocean Essay examples -- Descriptive Essay Examples

A Perfect Day in the Ocean As I watch, the waves from the shore look fun and almost innocent as they crest and then crash over one another. I can taste the salt in they air and watch little rainbows glisten through the prisms of the ocean’s spray. The warm ocean water toward the shore is covered with foam and bubbles from the rumbling waves as children and their families play in the gritty tan colored sand. I think to myself, â€Å"This is perfect†. I make the final preparations on my Yamaha Waverunner. All of the fluid levels check full and there is a faint smell of gasoline mixed with the aromas of salt and fish in the air. I am now ready to brave and jump the mighty ocean waves of South Padre Island! Before the truck backs the trailer into the warm waters at the dock and lowers the Waverunner into the blue-green abyss, I crank the engine for a final systems check. It roars powerfully, drowning out the sound of the birds circling overhead, as thick black and gray smoke initially pours from the exhaust and then slowly drifts away on the wind’s light breeze. I turn the impressive machine off to finish my final preparations. As I put on the Jet Pilot lifejacket and tighten the thick blue straps, I remind myself to stay calm and not to make stupid or impulsive decisions during my journey into the ocean. It is easy to push oneself to the limits and lose track of reality. I must remember to respect Mother Nature at all times and keep in mind that I am not invincible. I climb aboard the Waverunner and grab hold of the handbars, warm from the bright sun. Now the truck begins to back up, gently lowering me on this powerful machine into the calm waters of the docking area. As I drift from the trailer, I take a moment to lo... ... spot two more dolphins and then another joins them. The first dolphin emerges again to make a total of four. They are swimming in front of me, playing in the surf. It is almost as if they are leading me to shore. As I idle through the channel, they slowly disappear back to their home in the Gulf. Once the dolphins are gone, I gently squeeze the throttle and head back to the docks. With a final look back, a see the sun’s reflection off of the glassy smooth water as the ripples of my wake break the surface behind. I think about what a wonderful experience this day has been. Approaching the boat trailer, I realize how physically tired I am from the constant rush of adrenaline brought by my adventures. I have the memories of the exciting jumps of the waves and the vivid pictures in my mind of the graceful dolphins swimming in the sunset. I am ready to go home.

Living together before marriage Essay

The beautiful wedding and the romantic honeymoon are over; now it’s time for the real work to begin – the marriage. You move into your dream home ready to begin your life together, but this is the first time you are living together as a couple and there will be some challenges. Each of your habits, good and bad but mostly bad, will emerge. For him, it’s leaving his dirty clothes on the bathroom floor, leaving plates and cups all over the house, leaving the toilet seat up or having an obsession with pornography. For her, it’s leaving her cosmetics in the bathroom sink, squeezing the toothpaste from the middle, not liking to do housework or not being able to cook a decent meal. All of these habits could have been predetermined from simply living together before the marriage; which could also avoid a difficult situation. Living together before marriage is a wonderful way to begin a relationship that may lead to marriage. In the past, it was considered scandalous for a couple to live together before marriage, however, in today’s society it is a necessity. Opponents of cohabitation before marriage believe that there is a higher probability of divorce when couples live together before marriage. For them, cohabitating before marriage is a bad idea as it can lead to poor communication, a lower quality relationship, and ultimately divorce. Many persons, however, take the step of cohabitation to prevent going into a marriage that may be short-lived and end in divorce. They believe that it is best to live together before marriage to test the relationship. If they live well together just as a couple, it will be an easy transition when living together married. Cohabitating before marriage can help determine whether or not the relationship will last, how difficult it will be to maintain, what problems can arise once the couple reside together, and how these problems will be solved. Living together before marriage is a precursor to living together when married as the kinks can be worked out, which can lead to a happier and longer marriage. Other opponents of cohabitation before marriage believe that once they live together before marriage the mystery and surprise of getting to know the spouse is lost. They believe that because the couple has already learnt all of spouse’s quirks and habits. However, proponents of living together before marriage believe that couples should really know what they are getting into before marriage. For instance, they could learn if their partner is messy or clean, or if one person believes that the housework should be done by one partner or shared between the two partners. It is often said that you really don’t know a person until you live with them. In living together before marriage they will learn their partner’s habits, regular activities, routines, and see how well their individual quirks mesh with each other. When living apart, either party can hide certain bad habits from the other partner, however, when living together they can only hide their shortcomings for so long and eventually their true colors will be exposed. Once you live together before marriage and the parties are getting along and are compatible, there is a good chance that this behavior will continue once they get married. In the event they are not compatible, many see living together before marriage as a lower risk as if the relationship fails breaking up is considered easier than divorce. Opponents of cohabiting before marriage also believe that this brings unnecessary problems with money and finances. They believe that dealing with one person’s finances can be stressful, so adding another person’s finances into the mix will only increase the stress. This stress can be avoided once the decision to live together before marriage is made. Both parties can agree on a budget that will ensure not more is spent that what is allocated, for instance, on bills and recreational items. Once they live together, finances and the money saved can be shared between the two of them. Living together means one rental payment and one set of household bills including utilities and gas. It also allows both parties to save for other financial goals, such as investments, savings or spending the funds on the wedding. Cohabitating before marriage also gives the couple the chance to determine before the marriage how the household finances will be handled. They can decide if one person will be responsible or if it will be a joint effort. They can test run if one person is better with the finances than the other, instead of once being married arguing about it. Living together before marriage can also reveal if either party has bad spending habits of excessive debt, which they may hide living separately. I strongly believe that it is indeed important for couples to live together before marriage. It is a responsible and reasonable decision for a couple to cohabitate before making the life changing decision to marry. For me it makes sense to share one unit as both persons will learn of each other’s habits, routines, regular activities, and personal differences; then decide whether or not they want to continue in the relationship. Both partners will learn the other partner’s likes and dislikes, each others expectations of the relationship and how to cope in stressful times. Cohabitating before marriage can save a person from an unhappy, unhealthy marriage. Living together before marriage is definitely a necessity!

Race And Racial Profiling And Gender Issues On The Basis...

Introduction Spanish was my first language growing up but when I began to speak English my Spanish accent transpired. I was placed in bilingual classes to assist me in pronouncing English words. Recalling on those memories had me wonder if they were my first experience feeling different. It wasn’t until I got to middle school and high school that I became aware of race separation because students grouped culturally and linguistically. I was not well informed of the purpose of the L.A. riots until I saw the police brutality video. It became evident after 9/11 and the Arizona SB 1070 act that race and racial profiling became a great issue. Throughout this paper my hope is to understand ideas surrounding race and gender issues on the basis†¦show more content†¦The intention was not to lower my self-esteem but to protect my image as a young girl and build my confidence. Gender roles were merely distinguished by knowing how to cook, laundry, appearance and speech. A couple of remarks made by my father and mother for example was, â€Å"you should know how to cook because how are you going to feed your children and husband?†, â€Å"be aware how you speak and look because men are going to think negatively about you†. Statements differentiated gender roles and how to behave based on gender. Previously on my Theory of Me paper I discussed how important respect is in my family and zero tolerance for disrespect. The only discussion I had growing up regarding age was respect towards adults and the elder. Sexual health or sexual orientation was the last thing my parents did not talk to me about. It may have been influenced from embarrassment and boundaries of what not to talk about. Social Media Influences Growing up I did recognize my peers being different from me in physical appearance and language. Music was an influence how I understood cultural diversity by listening to the lyrics, the depiction of music videos, outfits, artists, and choreography. Television portrayed African Americans and Latino characters as a criminal compared to Caucasian characters who were the hero. I did not understand why the African American or the Latino character continuously got shot in every movie until I saw the film â€Å"Mi
